Book Discussion at India International Centre (IIC)

On September 6, 2025, at the India International Centre (IIC), Prof. Rumki Basu participated in a discussion regarding the book “Business Strategies and Public Policies in India and Europe: Ideas for a Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient Society.” Edited by Dr. Bidisha Banerji and Dr. Sheetal Sharma, this comprehensive study examines public policy frameworks across the two regions. The session was skillfully chaired by Shri Srinivas Voruganti, Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), whose leadership facilitated a deep dive into the intersection of governance and private sector strategy.

During the discourse, Prof. Rumki Basu highlighted how this compelling work bridges theory and practice, effectively weaving the themes of inclusivity, resilience, and sustainability into the fabric of public policy. The book’s three-part structure—covering theoretical foundations, environmental challenges, and policy imperatives—addresses critical contemporary issues such as climate change, digital inclusion, and equitable trade. While acknowledging the impressive breadth of the research, she noted that a deeper focus on grassroots scalability and intersectional inequalities could further amplify the book’s practical impact on society.

The event was an opportunity to engage in a vibrant exchange of ideas with Shri Madhavan Narayanan, as well as several of the book’s contributors, including Jayati Talapatra, Sreyashi Bose, Pallavi Maitra, Muskan Madhok, and Devika Sharma. The presence of series editor Dr. Nayan Mitra (PhD) further enriched the dialogue. Prof. Rumki Basu highly recommends this volume as a must-read for policymakers and practitioners dedicated to shaping a more sustainable and resilient global society.
