National Conference titled “Viksit Bharat @ 2047: Transforming India through Public Policy, Law and Governance”

On October 8, 2025, the Saveetha School of Law, Chennai, hosted a landmark National Conference titled “Viksit Bharat @ 2047: Transforming India through Public Policy, Law and Governance.” Prof. Rumki Basu had the distinct privilege of delivering the inaugural address as the Chief Guest, setting the stage for a multidisciplinary discourse focused on India’s national vision for the next two decades. The conference served as a critical forum for evaluating the transformative potential of legal frameworks and public policy in fostering inclusive, sustainable, and participatory development across various sectors of the Indian economy and society.

The event facilitated a high-level exchange among a distinguished group of scholars in Law and Public Administration. Prof. Rumki Basu joined esteemed fellow Chief Guests, including Prof. (Dr.) M. Uma Maheswari of the University of Madras; Dr. Md. Asaad Raza, Principal of Arignar Anna Government Arts and Science College; Prof. (Dr.) N. Kayalvizhi, Principal of Chennai Dr. Ambedkar Govt. Law College; and Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Dean at Chettinad Academy of Research and Education. With over 100 research scholars presenting papers, the depth of insights shared provided a comprehensive legal and political blueprint aimed at guiding India’s journey toward 2047.

As the Head of the Centre for Public Policy and Governance (CPP&G) at the Institute of Social Sciences, Prof. Rumki Basu contributed specific recommendations on public policy and legal reform. These contributions directly aligned with the Centre’s core mission, emphasizing the necessity of digital innovation, transparency, and enhanced citizen participation in governance. The discussions underscored the importance of creating a just and equitable framework that can support the rapid scaling of developmental initiatives.
